FEMeeting: WEB open call for everyone!

On behalf of FEMeeting and the organizing teams of “FEMeeting 2020: Paris” and “FEMeeting 2020: Troy” we are launching a call for 2 minute video podcasts in response to the upcoming events brought by the COVID-19 crisis.

This call is to the entire FEMeeting community: all Women in Art, Science & Technology. Send your videos until April 15th!!

In short: let’s be creative, open and do something together! The videos will be “housed” on a youtube channel (to get social media traction) and on a vimeo account (for better quality and archival purposes and no ads) and placed on a mediasanctuary.tv channel dedicated to FEMeeting, the Leonardo/Olats and FEMeeting websites.

Please send your SHORT 1-2 minutes videos (mpeg4 files) until the 15th of April via wetransfer.com (max 300 MB) or another free file transfer platform. Send to Kathy High (kittyhigh@gmail.com) and Pavel Tavares (pavel@cultivamoscultura.org). Send your info along (name, affiliation, photo and 100 words short bio) and please specify if you want your video to be public – or private. We encourage “public” to get the FEMessage out but we are here for you and appreciate any feedback.

To make lemonade from lemons, here are some prompts but please know this is an open discussion:

• Viral contamination and confinement

• DIY methods in response to the virus – make a hand sanitizer and face mask, select herbs to boost your immune system

• Ways to promote heal and healing

• Fighting fear

• Activate community support

• Explode the virus – envisioning a new future

• How is this a viral moment?

• How can we plant a seed?

• How to transform a virus?

FEMeeting announces its first community meetings taking place in the upcoming Spring 2020

Due to the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) worldwide situation this event has been cancelled.

FEMeeting announces its first community meetings taking place in the upcoming Spring 2020: “FEMeeting: Paris” (on the 20th and 21st of March) and “FEMeeting: Troy” (on the 20th and 21st of March).

Launched in 2017, the conference “FEMeeting: Women in Art, Science and Technology” was driven by the desire to develop and promote more direct collaboration between individuals who identify with the female gender. The idea behind FEMeeting was orchestrated by the Portuguese artist Marta de Menezes and scholar Dalila Honorato, after realizing that women in the field of Art and Science have an unquestionable presence worldwide.

FEMeeting acknowledges the social relevance of a core community and its role for the future. FEMeeting’s main purpose is to disseminate projects that are being carried out by women in order to contribute (a) to the development of research methodologies in art and science and (b) to the development of collaboration strategies that can increase knowledge sharing and bring communities together.

The main FEMeeting conferences are structured integrating part of presentations open to the public in urban centers and the main part of presentations held behind closed doors in smaller locations. These characteristics, in addition to several organized or spontaneous social activities, have the function of encouraging communication between participants.

The two first FEMeetings took place in Portugal and were organized by Cultivamos Cultura. The outcomes of 2018 and 2019 conferences have been many and, though most are intangible, among the project’s distinguishable objectives there are: (a) a strong personal support through instant internet communication between women doing research work (in the broadest sense of the term) in art, science and technology (b) and the encouragement towards the formation of local nodes to support research and artistic creation developed to enable a wide network of direct communication among them and encourage trust.

It is in this sense that FEMeeting announces its first community meetings taking place in the upcoming Spring 2020: “FEMeeting: Paris” and “FEMeeting: Troy”.

FEMeeting: Paris” is hosted by Leonardo/Olats on March 20th and 21st as The Leonardo Space Art Science Workshop (shorten in SAS WS). “FEMeeting: Troy” is organized with Media Sanctuary’s NATURE Lab Initiative (North Troy Art, Technology, and Urban Research in Ecology) and co-founders Marta de Menezes and Dalila Honorato on Saturday, March 21st.

FEMeeting 2020 ! It is happening!!! Find out Where and When!!!

Due to the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) worldwide situation this event has been cancelled.

We are so thrilled to announce!!

“FEMeeting: Troy” is organized with Media Sanctuary’s NATURE Lab Initiative (North Troy Art, Technology, and Urban Research in Ecology) and co-founders Marta de Menezes and Dalila Honorato on Saturday, March 20th and 21st. The morning and afternoon sessions will take place at closed door, while the evening sessions will be open to the general public. “FEMeeting: Troy” will be held at The Sanctuary for Independent Media, 3361 6th Avenue, Troy, New York 12181. “FEMeeting: Paris” is hosted by Leonardo/Olats on March 20th and 21st as The Leonardo Space Art Science Workshop (shorten in SAS WS). Organised by Annick Bureaud with the contribution of Ewen Chardronnet and Susmita Mohanty. Teaming up with the FEMeeting initiated by Marta de Menezes and Dalila Honorato in Portugal in 2018, Leonardo/Olats proposes the 2020 Leonardo Space Art, Science and Culture Workshop focusing on women. FEMeeting: Paris 2020  will be by invitation only.

Catalogue for FEMeeting 2018

(international conference)
assembled by the FEMeeting 2018 Organizing Committee, with the support of Cultivamos Cultura (PT) and the Center for Research in Communication Information and Digital Culture (PT) and in partnership with Fundação Eugénio de Almeida (PT), Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (PT) and Leonardo/ISAST (US)

FEMeeting: Women in Art, Science and Technology had its opening in 2018, recognizing that the concept of woman might be considered challenging, as it is nonconsensual in its multiplicity of roles and arousing cultural imaging. Today, women in art & science women are a visible presence at international festivals and conferences, whether it’s working as faculty, curators, artists or scientists, or several of the above. As the balance in numbers between genders is an undeniable phenomenon, FEMeeting calls for contributions that reflect on the status quo of contemporary science and art.
