Friday May 29th 2020, opening at 4pm in Troy, NY and 10pm in Paris, France
On March 11th we announced the cancelling of the first FEMeeting Troy and FEMeeting Paris for reasons connected with the COVID-19 pandemic. The two events scheduled for March 20th-21st 2020 marked the start of FEMeeting communities, focusing on the support of research and artistic creation developed locally by individuals who identify as women. Instead Spring brought the flourishing of FEMeeting WEB dedicated to the presentation of digital self-immunization, an alternative form of gathering and overall encouragement to collective personal exchange on times of physical lockdown.
On Friday May 29th part of the activities collected remotely will be made public and presented digitally worldwide. Launched under the working title “Antibodies”, FEMeeting WEB 2020 includes the “All Women Crew Podcasts”, the 2020 Space Art Science Workshop organized to celebrate women in art, astronautics and astronomy, and the video podcasts sent by the members of the FEMeeting community at large in response to the upcoming events brought by the COVID-19 crisis.
FEMeeting WEB 2020 is organized with Kathy High and Branda Miller, from Media Sanctuary’s NATURE Lab Initiative (North Troy Art, Technology, and Urban Research in Ecology), and Annick Bureaud, from Leonardo/Olats, together with FEMeeting co-founders Marta de Menezes and Dalila Honorato, with the support of Cultivamos Cultura.
Teaming up with the FEMeeting initiated by Marta de Menezes and Dalila Honorato in Portugal in 2018, Leonardo/Olats proposed to have an “All Women Crew” for its 2020 Space Art Science Workshop to “celebrate women in art, astronautics and astronomy”. Doing things remotely is something known in the field of space activities: from driving robots on Mars to landing probes on a comet to scanning the deep sky with telescopes. When it became obvious that our workshop would not take place this year, we decided that we would put together a remotely built collective contribution. Today, I am happy to bring to you this series of podcasts that I hope you will enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed producing them.
For the “All Women Crew” 2020 workshop, we have created, like last year, a deck of cards. Each participant has been asked to answer the same first question “what has attracted you to space” and then two other questions picked up by chance.
